Can Xue (Deng Xiaohua) was born in 1953 in Changsha. She is one of the most acclaimed voices of contemporary Chinese literature. After several jobs, she started writing full-time in the mid-’80s. She is an avant-garde author; her experimental works are translated all over the world.

Can Xue’s short story “Movimento verticale” (Chuzhi yundong, 垂直运动, Vertical Motion) was published on Specimen – The Babel Review of Translation, in Chinese, Italian, English and German (25th May 2024).
