The "Officina" Permanent Translation Workshop was born out of the "Riccardo Massa" Department of Human Sciences for Education of the University of Milano-Bicocca.

The Workshop focuses on editorial translation from Chinese into Italian, with particular attention to the literary field. It is thought of as a real and virtual space for exchange and training for translators, allowing for the possibility to grow by discussing translation matters among peers as well as with expert translators, scholars from various disciplines, and representative figures of the publishing world.

Active since 2016, the working group was granted institutional status in 2020, with the aim of giving greater visibility to its activities and hoping to welcome other language combinations.

Specific care is given to the rendition of texts in Italian, with an active reflection on the influence of the source language onto the target language and the specificity of the “translation language” in the Chinese-Italian combination. This is accompanied by a constant on-field investigation of domestication and foreignization translation strategies for the sake of respecting the culture of origin and enriching the destination culture.
