Patrizia Liberati

I graduated in Chinese Studies at SOAS and in 2001 I obtained an MA in Theater Literature at the Central Academy of Dramatic Arts in Beijing, where I have lived since 1990.

I have translated novels by Mo Yan, Jia Pingwa, Yan Lianke, Liu Zhenyun, Han Shaogong (with Maria Rita Masci) and stories by Wang Shuo, Feng Tang, Xu Haofeng, Li Er, Li Jingze, Ge Fei, Feng Jicai, and Diao Dou among numerous others.

Since 2012, I have been a consultant and lead lecturer in the Chinese Film, Medicine and the Body course (China Center for Health and Humanity, University College London) and a member of the team of the YiMovi website – Chinese Film and the Cross-cultural Medical Humanities (www.yimovi. com).

Since 2014, I am co-editorial director, together with Silvia Pozzi, of Caratteri – Contemporary Chinese Literature published by the People’s Literature (Renmin wenxue人民文学 )  magazine.

I received the Procida-Isola di Arturo-Elsa Morante Award (2009), the National Award for Translation (2014), and the Special Book Award of China (2023). 

Thanks to our collection Gli insaziabili – Otto scrittori italiani e otto scrittori cinesi (edited with Silvia Pozzi), the Nottetempo publishing house was awarded the Grant for the strengthening of Italian culture and language abroad – Translation Award 2019.
