Cristina Dozio

I am an assistant professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Milan and a lecturer of translation at the Higher School for Linguistic Mediators of Vicenza. My research interests include contemporary Arabic literature, satire, space representation, and literary translation. On satire, I have published Laugh like an Egyptian: Literary Humour in the Contemporary Egyptian Novel (DeGruyter Mouton 2021).

Together with Elisabetta Bartuli, I co-translated novels by ‘Ala al-Aswani and Dima Wannous. In addition, I have translated some works by Hoda Barakat, Samar Yazbek, and Mohamed Mansi Qandil published in magazines. I was selected among the three finalists of the Babel-Formentini 2020 Award dedicated to young translators with Youssef Fadel’s Ogni volta che prendo il volo (Francesco Brioschi Editore 2019).

I have been one of the judges of the InAltreParole translation prize for children’s literature organized by the Bologna Children’s Bookfair (2020 e 2021) and I am among the literary translators of the LEILA – Arabic Literature in European Languages project.
